2 Weeks Out

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, weekend hikes have been put on hiatus due to a member of the group (not me) that has a foot injury. That does not mean I have taken a break, however. The past 2 weeks has consisted mostly of going to the gym to see my trainer and spending time by myself working out at our complex’s gym or running in the neighborhood. I have upgraded to a master trainer package at the gym due to my trainer being promoted. What this means is I now get nutritional guidance and meal plans. My trainer has been amazing. He pushes me to my limits and I’m excited at my progress so far. I’ve also decided to see him twice a week as long as I can. Pushing my limits!

Since our Yosemite trip is coming up in just about 2 weeks, I’ve decided to share some of our plans for the trip.
We are going for 4 nights (Tuesday-Saturday) and camping in Tuolumne Meadows (Elevation 8,600 feet) which is northeast of Yosemite Valley that everyone is more familiar with.
Tuolomne Meadows
The day we get there we will probably take a short 3 mile hike or so just to stretch out our legs and adjust to the elevation. Most likely we’ll spend the majority of the day swinging in our hammocks and drinking a few beers. Camping!
Day two we plan to hike to North Dome . This hike is approximartely 9 miles and the elevation change is only around 550 feet! Why do the North Dome hike? Only because it offer s the best view of Half Dome in the entire park! North Dome is across from Half Dome so you are looking right at the face. If you bring your binoculars you can take a long break and spot people hiking up half dome. I’ve never done this hike and I’m really excited about it. Can’t wait to share my experience with everyone!

Day 3 will entail a hike out to Glen Aulin(Tuolumne Falls & White Cascade). Glen Aulin This is viewed as a long trek (about 13 miles) and you get to visit the Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp! The elevation change is around 600 feet and the hike should take pretty much the whole day (7-10 hours).  Even though the elevation change seems small on these hikes, keep in mind you are starting at over 8000 feet! If we planned on climbing higher it would most likely be….challenging….to say the least
Tuolomne Falls
Our last full day in the park will consist of a couple short hikes. One to Pothole Dome and one to Dog Lake . The Pothole Dome trail follows the Tuolomne River in some places and offers beautiful views of the meadow itself.  Dog Lake is named so because in 1898, Robert Marshall of the US Geological Survey visited and found an abandoned sheepdog with a litter of puppies. A not to spectacular story, and it matches what is described as a not too spectacular lake, just a pretty one. I’m alright with that. I just want to experience the most of the high elevations as I can!

Notice the Valley is not included in any of our plans. That is because every time we have gone to Yosemite in the past 10 years we have camped and/or visited only valley attractions. While it is true the Valley offers all of the big sights such as El Capitan, Yosemite and Bridalveil Falls, and Half Dome, Yosemite is so much more than those big names. Our last trip was a quick turn around, and I mean quick. A campsite happened to open on a Friday night in Wawona and we decided to be spontaneous and go. We camped the night, drove through the valley to see the big stuff, then headed north to Tuolomne, where we had never been. It opened our eyes. We decided the next time we went we would stay there. So we are! I’ll share our experiences when we get back.
In exactly 2 weeks (14 days) I'll be in Yosemite!
