New Shoes & Big Aspirations

Last weekend we didn't get to do any hiking. We planned to go on Saturday but it didn't happen. I had a slight injury nagging me all last week so I wasn't able to work out as much as I wanted. I did go for a run though, just over 2.5 miles around my neighborhood. It was nice, but I was sore for days! Running out in the wild is different then the gym, I tell you. I worked way harder than I usually do. I suppose that is a good thing.

Saturday we went to the REI Garage Sale because I wanted to get some new hiking shoes. My older ones are all stretched out from when I weighed 80 pounds more! Way too big, they were rubbing my feet wrong. I can't have that! I picked up a pair of Merrell hikers for only $39! So, if they don't work out I won't feel bad dropping some more cash on full priced shoes.

My new Merrel hiking shoes! $39...nice
I also got a hiking baseball style hat, a cute sun hat, and some Merrell Pace Glove barefoot shoes. I'm really excited about these. They are minimalist but super comfy! And I got them for 50% off! A total win. I don't know what I'm going to use them for, but I'm so happy I found them on sale!

This week was pretty good, workout wise. On Monday I saw my trainer. I was sad to be told that was the last time I would be seeing him. I knew he was leaving soon because he has to go run his businesses overseas, but it was supposed to be at the end of the month. I was introduced to my new trainer, and that man is a wall! Such a meat head. I hope I will like him. Every day this week I told myself I can take a break, but every day I talked myself out of it and went for a workout. I've been working on my cardio to help with the hiking at elevation and I have also been doing the stair machine alot to get more muscle in my legs. Everything is going very well.

Yesterday I went for a short run around my neighborhood and was surprised to have Kristen join me. Kristen used to run cross country and play soccer, so she is naturally very athletic. However, she is out of shape due to the lack of exercising. She needs to work out though if she is going to climb Whitney with me! She's hoping this is a jumping point for her exercise regime. I will let you know how that goes...

This weekend we plan on being more active. However today is truly a break day because we are going to a rugby match with some friends so there is no time for a workout. Tomorrow morning we will get up and go on a hike. I think we will go to Peter's Canyon and do a 5.7 mile loop with some nasty hills. Have to break in those shoes! Then some relaxing by the pool and on Sunday hopefully some yoga.

But of course, there is always....

Bear/Deer = ?
